Terragen 2
This was made and rendered with terragen 2. Took about 12 hours for this which was originally 800 by 600 pixels. Theres no real story behind it, no inspiration, just testing out the software.

Love that banding on the rock!! How did you do that? Was that from an image map shader or via erosion or something?

I'm not sure; its been quiet a few years... I think it was a step shader, though very weak; and erosion is for sure(;

Nice rock shapes and clouds.
Very well done.

Yes TG2 takes long to render well. Lets see
if the new version which should come someday
improves this.

Oof, 12 hours is a long time, I'm surprised you had the patience. Worth half of it though, the wait was long, but the image is really cool.

well, I was playing with some of the settings and I maxed the GIs, which was a stupid thing to do, I should have increased the samples of the clouds though, probably to somewhere near 64, I see they are a bit noisy.... thank you btw(;

I've heard that the GI isn't really an important feature, at least, not yet. I usually drop it down to 1 and just hope for the best.

thank you(; I like mountains, especially the sense of grandness they often have, and they render faster than water(;

Fantastic, such a sharp and realistic terrain, and very moody lighting which puts me in a sense of uncertainty...as if the shadow coming over the mountain is something bad impeding over this world.

fantastic render!
looks very photo realistic.

maybe you´ll give it another try with higher resolution, while using a renderfarm.

hey, thanks! I would, but this version of terragen can only render 800px by 600px, whats a renderfarm?

i see.

a network of more than 2 cpu´s is called a renderfarm.
mostly used for animations.

nah, thats nuts.
there are quite more possibilities to succed it.
why not using a tool (render client) and put it on more than one pc (university/school/home network).

you only need to setup a network to split frames to other cpu´s you want to use on your renderjob.
hope i explained it in a good manner.

cheers

ya i know, didn't get terragen either, but then somehow I learned. You just have to use the surface layers and stuff like power fractal. But anyway thanks a lot=)

the time... right... slow computer+vista = suck... :(
